The Patriots claimed wide receiver Matt Landers off waivers from the Browns on Tuesday.
In a corresponding roster move, they placed rookie wide receiver JaQuae Jackson on injured reserve. Jackson was carted off of the field with an apparent knee injury in Thursday’s preseason game against the Eagles.
Landers, 25, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Arkansas with the Seahawks. He’s also spent time with the Panthers and in the UFL.
The 6-foot-4, 200-pound wideout began his college career at Georgia before transferring to Toledo and Arkansas. He ran a blazing 4.37-second 40-yard dash last offseason with a 6.86-second 3-cone drill, 37-inch vertical leap, 10-feet, 10-inch broad jump and 1.51-second 10-yard split.
He caught 47 passes for 901 yards with eight touchdowns in 2022 at Arkansas.
Jackson scored the Patriots’ first touchdown of the preseason on a pass from rookie QB Joe Milton III.
Landers joins Javon Baker, Kawaan Baker, Kendrick Bourne, Kayshon Boutte, DeMario Douglas, K.J. Osborn, Ja’Lynn Polk, Jalen Reagor, Tyquan Thornton and David Wallis on the wide receiver depth chart.
