FOXBORO — The Patriots signed veteran wide receiver Alex Erickson to their practice squad Wednesday, the team announced.

Erickson, 32, has been out of the NFL since last season, when he played eight games with the Chargers.

The Wisconsin product has experience with Patriots offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, spending time together with the Bengals in 2018 and 2019.

He has 112 career receptions on 181 targets for 1,373 yards with two touchdowns since entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2016. The 6-foot, 195-pound pass catcher’s best season came in 2019 when he caught 43 passes for 529 yards.

He’s also spent time with the Texans, Panthers, Commanders and Jets.

Erickson fills out the Patriots’ practice squad, which also features wide receivers John Jiles and Braylon Sanders. They serve as depth behind Javon Baker, Kendrick Bourne, Kayshon Boutte, DeMario Douglas and Ja’Lynn Polk, who are on the 53-man roster.
