We don’t know whether Patrice Bergeron will retire or not. But we do know that he can still play the game of hockey.

On Monday at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Bergeron won his record sixth Selke Award as the NHL’s best defensive forward and his second straight. Bergeron has been a finalist for the last 12 seasons.

It was not a close race. Bergeron pulled in 187 first place votes while the other two finalists, New Jersey’s Nico Hischier and Toronto’s Mitch Marner each recoreved three first place votes. The only other players to receive first-place votes were Los Angeles Kings’ Anze Koptiar (two) and Carolina’s Jordan Staal (one).

Bergeron did not attend the ceremony in Nashville because he he and his wife are expecting the couple’s fourth child, sending an acceptance video that thanked teammates, family, the organization and his agency.

Bergeron led the B’s with a plus-35 and SAT percentage with the B’s taking 59.7 percent of shot attempts at 5-on-5 play. He led the league in faceoffs won with 1,043…

The beginning of the dismantling of the 2022-23 Bruins began on Monday when the GM Don Sweeney dealt both Taylor Hall and the rights to Nick Foligno to Chicago in what was mostly a salary dump. While Pastrnak expressed some sadness to see friends go, he was looking forward to proving people wrong.

“Before last season, everyone was doubting us to not even make the playoffs and then you go on a historic regular season,” said Pastrnak. “Same thing with Florida. Everybody doubted them with barely making th playoffs and then they had a hell of a run. I’m just excited to get things started, make the playoffs and then go from there.”
