BOSTON — In a rematch of the 2024 Women’s Beanpot final, the battle of the Boston collegiate canines was taken by the Northeastern Huskies.

The Huskies skated to a 4-0 win over the Boston University Terriers in the 20th championship game.

The first period was extremely even with both teams having great opportunities. The period also featured big defensive moments and some incredible saves from both goalies.

But only Northeastern was able to get on the board. With 11:29 left in the first, senior defenseman Lily Yovetich took a shot just inside the blue line that took a wild bounce off BU’s Ani Fitzgerald’s stick where it snuck under the crossbar to give the Huskies a 1-0 advantage.

The second period could be best described as physical. Both teams were extremely physical and there were over half a dozen big collisions and neither team gave an inch.

The period was scoreless until junior right wing and Andover native Lily Shannon slammed home a rebound on the doorstep after a shot from Jaden Bogden with 2:21 to go in the second. This would not be all from Bogden as just 30 seconds later she found herself on the other side of the equation as she put in a tip off a rebound to score her fifth goal on the year, with Jules Constantinople getting the assist.

The third period was not nearly as eventful. BU looked to have some chances but Northeastern goalie Lisa Jönsson was dynamite in net during a 30-save shutout. The Huskies added an empty netter with Skyler Irving sealing the deal.

Jönsson was named the tournament MVP and also the Bertagna Award winner as the best goalie. She posted 65 saves on 67 shots across the two games for the champions. This is the ninth time a player won both awards in tournament history.

She said after the game, “Getting a shutout is a big confidence boost for the rest of the way. It was just so amazing to play this game, this being my first Beanpot, I loved every second of it. Even in front of the big crowd, our captain said to try and play like it’s a crowd of one and I think we did a good job of that.”

This marks Northeastern’s third straight Beanpot and sixth overall under head coach Dave Flint. This moves BU to 14-8-1 and NU to 15-8-1, with both teams continuing a stretch of tough Hockey East conference games.
