A North End restaurant owner accused of shooting at a man outside a popular bakery last summer was arrested again over the weekend after allegedly trying to cut off the electronic monitoring device attached to his body, police said.

Patrick Mendoza, 55, had been “exhibiting erratic behavior” before Saturday night’s attempt to sever the mandatory device, according to a redacted Boston police report — which noted Mendoza was “extremely stressed” about the criminal case pending against him.

“Officers recovered Mendoza P.’s electronic monitoring device directly from his person, which appeared to be cut,” the police report states. “Officers asked Mendoza P. why he cut the bracelet and he replied, ‘I’m tired and sick of it.’

“During the booking process, Mendoza P. also stated he was (redacted) and was ‘definitely going to kill somebody,’ ” the report goes on to state.

The report indicates Mendoza was arrested on a warrant — charging him with armed assault to murder, attempted assault and battery with a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm without a permit and possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card —  at 31 N. Bennett St., an apartment that differs from the home address listed for him in the document.

He was scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Suffolk Superior Court.

The charges relate to a July 12, 2023 shooting outside Modern Bakery on Hanover Street, a popular spot in the North End.

Mendoza, whose family owns Monica’s Trattoria, allegedly fired three shots at a man he had a long-simmering relationship with. The defendant previously struck the same man on the head with a glass bottle in 2019, for which he received six months probation, the Herald previously reported.

He was arrested nine days after the shooting occurred.

The latest arrest comes roughly two weeks after Mendoza’s brother, Jorge Mendoza-Iturralde, another North End restaurant owner, announced his bid for mayor against Michelle Wu, who has yet to announce her re-election plans.

Both Mendoza brothers have clashed with the mayor over her restrictions on outdoor dining, earning a spot on Wu’s infamous list of critics sent to the Boston Police Department.

The mayor said at the time that the list included people who had harassed her for more than a year.
