


A New Bedford man was shot and killed early Monday morning, according to Massachusetts State Police who are investigating the homicide.
Lorenzo Gomes, 20, tried to drive to the hospital after he was shot, but he lost consciousness in his vehicle.
Police officers then found Gomes inside his vehicle on Belleville Avenue. EMS rushed him to Saint Luke’s Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
“Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the district attorney’s office, New Bedford Police and Homicide Unit prosecutors are actively investigating a homicide, which occurred early this morning in the City of New Bedford,” the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.
Police at around 12:11 a.m. on Monday received a 911 call for shots fired in the area of Tallman and North Front streets.
Responding officers were approached by witnesses who reported hearing loud bangs that sounded like gunshots. Several officers searched the surrounding area and eventually found Gomes inside his vehicle.
