A Massachusetts State Police trooper is suspended without pay for allegations of sexual misconduct while performing his duties during a traffic stop in Lexington.

Trooper Terence Kent was removed from duty as the State Police launched an internal review and was then suspended without pay effective Thursday, the agency confirmed to the Herald Friday night.

The specifics of the alleged offense could not be confirmed Friday night, but they do have something to do with alleged impropriety during a traffic stop.

“The Massachusetts State Police does not tolerate any form of sexual misconduct, and we hold our members accountable to the highest professional standards,” the agency said in a statement through spokesman Timothy McGuirk.

“When these serious allegations came to our attention, the Department immediately relieved the accused trooper of duty, opened an internal affairs investigation, and suspended him without pay following his duty status hearing,” the statement continued. “We remain fully committed to cooperating with the Lexington Police Department who are conducting an independent investigation with the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office.”

This is not the first time Kent has gotten into serious trouble since graduating from the State Police Academy in August 2017. The agency said that he was suspended for eight days and made to forfeit 38 days after an internal review last year found he had abandoned his post.

State payroll records show that Kent held two ranks during 2023, Trooper and Trooper first class. His total pay under both roles was $165,347, when all additional pay is added to a total base pay of $96,997.
