GIRLS BASKETBALL

Junior Maddie Lawrence erupted for a double-double, dropping 34 points to go with 13 rebounds as Sandwich (16-1) emerged victorious with a thrilling 54-52 victory over East Bridgewater in the South Shore League.

Kailey Sullivan tallied 17 points, while Erin Foley added 14 points herself as Foxboro (17-1) clinched the Hockomock League (Davenport Division) title with an 82-35 victory over rival Canton.

In nonleague play, seniors Marcella Bonfardeci (18 points) and Luna Murray (12 points) led The way as Malden Catholic defeated Cohasset 59-41. … Bella Sulfaro netted a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards as Blue Hills (12-4) rolled to a 46-25 win over Randolph. … Addison Taylor recorded 17 points to go with five assists, as Apponeqet (16-3) defeated Abington, 54-40. … Celia Nielson and Cecilia Kay each scored 14 points as Bishop Fenwick (14-3) defeated Whitman-Hanson, 51-29.

Maddie Giesta (22 points, 14 rebounds) paced her team in scoring, including 10 points during the final two extra sessions of play, as Arlington Catholic defeated Catholic Central League rival Archbishop Williams in double overtime, 68-64.

BOYS BASKETBALL

In the Commonwealth Athletic Conference, Derrick Twum dropped 29 points with  six rebounds as Innovation Academy (12-6) took down Northeast, 63-57.

Nick Barnes scored 31 points as St. John’s (Shrewsbury) defeated St. Paul 82-53 in a nonleague contest.

BOYS HOCKEY

Dave Pittenger (two goals, assist) carried things offensively, helping to key Duxbury in a 6-1 win over Patriot League foe Hanover.

Timmy Jones and Christopher Cassesso scored as Somerville edged Haverhill 2-1 in a nonleague contest.

GIRLS HOCKEY

In the Cape and Islands League, Ainsley Hopwood (two goals) and Marley Dwyer (goal, two assists) combined to help guide Sandwich during an 8-2 victory over Nantucket.

Reese Ferrara scored the game’s only goal as Winthrop edged Peabody/Lynnfield/North Reading 1-0 in the Northeastern Conference.

NORDIC SKIING

The MIAA Nordic Ski Championship at Prospect Mountain in Woodford, Vermont has been postponed from Tuesday to Wednesday due to the impending storm. The boys race will start at noon and the girls race will follow at 1:15.
