Those wicked humid “moist” and “muggy” summer days will unfortunately be the weather story this week in Massachusetts, with daily shots for scattered showers and thunderstorms.
While heavy downpours will be possible at times, meteorologists at the National Weather Service predict that there will be peaks of sunshine throughout the week.
“It’s not going to be the most wonderful weather for the week ahead,” Alan Dunham, meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Boston office, told the Herald on Sunday. “There will be a chance for showers every single day.”
Temps are expected to remain slightly cooler than seasonable with the muggy airmass still in place. Monday could be the warmest day of the week in the lower 80s before dropping into the 70s for the other days.
“Low pressure to our west will continue the moist, muggy, and unsettled pattern through the upcoming week,” the National Weather Service’s forecast discussion reads.
Some strong to severe storms will be possible on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The days won’t be total washouts, however.
There could be some isolated severe storms on Monday afternoon. The primary threats would be heavy rain and damaging winds.
Meanwhile, forecasters are watching the track of Tropical Storm Cindy, as the distant storm could bring higher swells to the coast over the Fourth of July long weekend.
“Will need to continue to monitor the track of distant Cindy as it may follow the Great Circle line toward our region,” the National Weather Service’s forecast discussion reads. “This could bring us higher swells/rip current risk late in the week and perhaps heading into the holiday weekend.”
Cindy has been continuing to weaken as the storm moves northwest in the Atlantic Ocean, and Cindy is expected to degenerate into a trough of low pressure by Monday night.
But after Cindy dissipates as a tropical cyclone, there’s a chance that Cindy could regenerate farther to the north in several days.
