Those hoping for further developments with regards to Bishop Fenwick’s postseason ban will have to wait a bit longer.

The MIAA Board of Directors met virtually on Tuesday morning and while a number of topics were covered including the admittance of a pair of schools and rewording of the handbook, discussion over the postseason ban levied on Bishop Fenwick was saved for executive session.

Sources going into the meeting said that reconsideration of the ban was unlikely.

During public discussion, the Board unanimously voted to accept Brooke Charter School and Codman Academy as members beginning with the 2023-24 school year. Former Malden principal and current head of the Henderson K-12 Inclusion School, Stephanie Sibley, was announced as the board’s new president.

Much discussion on the day centered around slight changes and adjustments to the MIAA Handbook. Most of the presentation made by Associate Executive Director Richard Pearson and Assistant Executive Director Phil Napolitano showcased rewording of the handbook that makes it more digestible for administrators.

With the adjustments come some minor notable changes. A sports week is now defined as Sunday to Saturday across all sports whereas football used to be an exception. In order to be eligible for postseason play, an individual must be part of a program for at least 50 percent of competitions. A student-athlete qualifies by being any member of the program — freshman, junior varsity, or varsity — for at least 50 percent of the season. Lastly, Pearson and Napolitano made clear that postseason play is officially classified as any day following that respective season’s regular season cut-off date.

This was clarified to clear up confusion with regards to the bonafide team rule which does not allow players to gain waivers to participate in outside sporting events in-season come postseason play.
