NextImg:Matthew Judon wants every Patriots pass rusher to be a ‘threat’

FOXBORO — Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has harped on the Eagles’ dangerous pass rush as the team gets prepared for their season opener Sunday. But Eagles QB Jalen Hurts could be under siege, as well, on Sunday.

The Patriots are returning two of the NFL’s most productive pass-rushing edge defenders this season in Matthew Judon and Josh Uche. Now they’ve added defensive end Keion White to a mix that already included Deatrich Wise and Christian Barmore, as well.

Judon likes the Patriots’ potential this season at getting after the quarterback.

“I’m very confident,” Judon said Thursday. “I think we can rush from any position. We can change up matchups. We can change up looks. And with that, we’re just going to try to build on the success we had last year, but not focus on last year. Try to improve with every asset that we’ve got and make everybody a threat.”

Uche ranked first last season among qualified edge defenders in PFF’s pass-rush productivity metric with 56 total pressures on 285 pass-rush snaps. Judon was 10th in the same category. Wise finished 29th with a 13.8% pass-rush win rate among edge defenders. Barmore was sixth among qualified defensive tackles with a 14.9% pass-rush win rate.

White played limited snaps this summer but had a 23.1% pass-rush win rate in 15 snaps this preseason.
