The Jamaica Plain man accused of shooting two people at a Mattapan nightclub Monday was ordered held without bail at least until the next hearing this week.
Regan Feliz, 29, appeared in municipal court in Dorchester Tuesday — though he tried to hide in the holding area, the Herald photographed him as he peeked into the gallery — on firearm and ammunition possession-related charges as well as a charge of possessing cocaine. A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.
His name is invariably spelled in reports, with some cover sheets spelling it “Felix,” with an X.
Boston Police were out in the 400-block of Macumbas Night Club in Mattapan for a complaint of illegally parked cars when several patrons of the club “ran out yelling” and one of them told the officer a man was shooting inside, prosecutor Michelle Slade said at the hearing.
As people crowded around, an off-duty police officer told the responding officer that he believed a man in the crowd had a gun. The two officers approached the group, which then scattered, according to the police report, with the suspect in the black shirt with a design on it breaking out into a sprint.
A pistol with no magazine fell during the pursuit, according to the report, and the officers recovered the Polymer 80 pistol before arresting Feliz.
Around the same time, an ambulance en route to the scene was flagged down by a shooting victim from the club, who was shot in the buttocks and the scrotum. A second victim, shot in the left thigh, drove himself to Milton Hospital and was then transported to Beth Israel Hospital. Both victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say that when Feliz was being booked at the station, they recovered a “medium sized plastic bag” of suspected cocaine from his pants pocket.
Prosecutor Slade said that detectives found an extended magazine containing 26 rounds — and capable of a total of 31 — was found in the club close to a shell casing that matched the caliber and brand of ammunition in the magazine.
