The field in the 121st Massachusetts Women’s Amateur Championship has been whittled down to eight.
To survive, players had to win two matches Wednesday at Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown. Among the survivors were medalist Mekhala Costello and two of the three Smith sisters of Westford, Morgan and Molly.
Morgan Smith, the 2022 champion, is the lone champ still in the field.
At 8 a.m., Costello (Blue Hill CC) will face Megan Buck (Thorny Lea GC), followed by Amy Lyon (Winchester CC) vs. Julia Imai (KOHR Golf), Morgan Smith (Mt. Pleasant GC) vs. Christine Mandile (Winchester CC), and Molly Smith (Long Meadow GC) vs. Katherine Ng (Nehoiden GC).
Morgan and Molly Smith weren’t challenged Wednesday. Their younger sister, Maddie, was eliminated in the Round of 32.
If both Smiths win their morning matches, they will clash in the afternoon in a semifinal. An 18-hole final Friday will determine the champion.
