A doctor at a local VA Medical Center has been arrested and charged with federal child pornography charges, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Sven Knudsen Ljaamo, 70, a physician employed at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Bedford, is facing one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.

Law enforcement had received a CyberTip reporting that more than 100 files of suspected child sexual abuse material had allegedly been uploaded to Ljaamo’s Google account, according to the feds’ charging documents.

When Ljaamo spoke to investigators, he allegedly admitted to viewing, downloading and saving pornographic material involving girls.

Several child sexual abuse material files, along with tens of thousands of pornography files, were allegedly found on Ljaamo’s devices — including on a cell phone Ljaamo kept in his office at the VA Medical Center.

Ljaamo was arrested Wednesday morning. Following an initial appearance in Boston federal court, he was ordered held pending a detention hearing scheduled for Tuesday, April 29.

The charges of receipt and possession of child pornography can lead to a sentence of up to 20 years in prison. The charge of receipt, specifically, can lead to a sentence of at least five years in prison and up to a lifetime of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.
