An Auburn police officer was one of 10 people arrested during a sting operation to uncover child predators in western Massachusetts.
Dominick Boschetto, of Brookfield, is the Auburn Police officer who was arrested in the sting conducted by the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Berkshire County District Attorney’s office, according to a statement released by Auburn Police Chief Todd Lemon.
“No one is more upset than we are with yesterday’s arrest. We are devastated and feel betrayed,” the APD posted on Facebook Tuesday, adding, “We are deeply saddened and angry with his actions.”
Chief Lemon placed Boschetto on administrative leave, which follows the PD’s policy, and launched an internal investigation “that will parallel the criminal investigation.” Boschetto’s firearms license was also suspended, according to the department.
Boschetto was arraigned Tuesday morning on a count each of sexual conduct with a child under 18 for a fee and enticement of a child under 16.
“The allegations against Boschetto are reprehensible and deeply offensive to every member of the Auburn Police Department,” Lemon wrote in his Monday letter. “Immediate action was taken to fully cooperate with investigators. Boschetto has been placed on administrative leave and the results of the criminal and internal investigations will determine the next course of action.”
Boschetto’s arrest comes after a two week-long operation partially funded by a Human Trafficking Enforcement grant awarded to the Berkshire DA office, according to a DA statement. Officers posed as 14- and 15-year-old girls online.
The defendants, who were not named in the DA’s statement, were arrested at locations they had allegedly arranged to meet with and have sex with people they believed to be minors.
The DA statement said that 10 had been arrested and charged “to date,” indicating the number may grow.
