A registered Level 2 sex offender has been arrested after allegedly taking photos of a woman in a YMCA shower, according to police.
Brockton man Abidan Rivera, 42, was arrested and charged with photographing, videotaping or electronically surveilling someone nude/partially nude, or sexual intimate parts.
East Bridgewater police officers were dispatched to the YMCA at 635 Plymouth St. on Sunday to investigate the report of a suspicious man taking photos and/or video of a woman in the shower.
Following an investigation, police identified Rivera as the suspect. Rivera, already a registered Level 2 sex offender, was identified via video surveillance and an eyewitness.
In the past, Rivera has been convicted multiple times of open and gross lewdness and lascivious behavior.
East Bridgewater Police secured an arrest warrant, and Rivera was arrested without incident at his workplace in Middleboro on Monday.
During the arraignment, the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office asked for $20,000 bail. The judge set bail at $10,000 with GPS monitoring if released, and ordered the defendant to stay away from the YMCA and the victim.
