The Healey administration has launched a website urging federal workers fired by President Trump and Elon Musk to consider jobs in the Bay State, while an elected official in Western Massachusetts suggests his city should enact a ban on Teslas.

Gov. Maura Healey and Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll recommend that fired federal workers turn to mass.gov/fedup to explore careers in state and local government. The website also features a platform that promotes careers in “high-growth industries” along with other services and job training resources.

“To all of our federal workers, if you’re fed up with the damaging tactics of Trump and Musk, we want you to consider continuing your career here in Massachusetts,” Healey said in a statement on Friday, “whether that’s in state or local government or in one of our many thriving industries.”

Officials highlighted that more than 46,000 Bay Staters work for the federal government in various sectors, including public administration, education, transportation and warehousing, and the postal service.

More than 160,000 private and public job postings are listed on the website that went live on Friday, according to the Healey administration. It made special reference to how the site includes “veteran-specific employment resources to support those who have served and are now facing uncertainty due to federal workforce cuts.”

“The Trump/Musk Administration has taken a wrecking ball to our federal government – weaponizing massive cuts and mass unemployment that is creating real pain for thousands of working-class people in Massachusetts,” Massachusetts AFL-CIO President Chrissy Lynch said in a statement. “We appreciate the Healey Administration has created resources to help federal workers navigate how to keep themselves and their families afloat during unemployment.”

Earlier this week, Easthampton City Councilor Brad Riley caught social media by storm when he suggested during a meeting that the city ban taxpayer dollars from going toward Tesla and Musk.

The Western Massachusetts city has been working on transitioning its city-owned vehicles to largely an all-electric fleet.

Riley said he “regretted” voting in 2022 for the Easthampton Police Department to add two Tesla Model Y cruisers to its fleet, one that cost $89,864 in city and state grants through the actual vehicle itself, retrofitting for police use and two EV charging stations.

“That organization and its leader have absolutely destroyed the government,” Riley said of Tesla and Musk, “and I would argue, put us in more financial jeopardy than even COVID put us in – this dangerous, dangerous rise of fascism.”

Mayor Nicole LaChapelle said it would be up to the City Council to decide whether it implements a ban on Tesla and other Musk products.
