NextImg:Massachusetts hit by second 2.0 magnitude aftershock after Maine earthquake

New England felt its third earthquake of the week early Sunday morning, as aftershocks continue following a Maine-based quake last Monday.

The 2.0 magnitude earthquake struck Sunday at 7:57 a.m. about 8 miles southeast of York Harbor, Maine, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.  The epicenter was located close to the 3.8 magnitude earthquake last Monday, which was felt from Nantucket, Massachusetts through Augusta, Maine.

The first aftershock following the New England quake came days later on Wednesday around 3:15 a.m. That aftershock also reached a 2.0 magnitude.

No major damage was reported following Sunday’s earthquake.

Following the first 3.8 magnitude earthquake on Monday, the USGS predicted a 5% chance of at least one aftershock of 3 magnitude or higher within the week.

Effects from Sunday’s earthquake were reported across Massachusetts and New Hampshire, according to the USGS Did You Feel It? tool.
