An alleged Mass and Cass drug dealer seen circling the area was busted with 17 bags of suspected fentanyl, according to Boston Police.
Jose Soto, 33, was arrested on drug trafficking charges following an investigation in the area of Melnea Cass Boulevard and Massachusetts Avenue on Monday.
Following complaints of drug activity in the area, BPD’s drug control officers have made multiple arrests.
Cops on Monday reportedly spotted a vehicle driven by Soto circling the area, which “raised suspicion,” police said. The officers saw the vehicle pull over and partially park on East Lennox Street.
“Soto remained inside the vehicle, frequently checking his phone and looking around in all directions, as if waiting for someone,” police said in a statement.
“A short time later, an unidentified male approached the vehicle and engaged in what appeared to be a hand-to-hand drug transaction with Soto,” BPD added. “Based on their training and experience, Officers recognized the exchange as indicative of street-level drug activity.”
Officers coordinated with units from District C-6 to conduct a motor vehicle stop.
Then once backup arrived, officers activated their emergency lights and sirens, stopping Soto’s vehicle near Montrose Street.
During the stop, officers searched the vehicle and found 17 small plastic bags of suspected fentanyl inside a larger plastic bag.
Officers also found an undisclosed amount of cash.
Soto was placed under arrest, and was expected to be arraigned on charges of trafficking Class A drugs (fentanyl).
