A 21-year-old man with five warrants out for his arrest hit a Massachusetts State Police cruiser Friday morning as he fled police and drove the wrong way on the Massachusetts Turnpike, according to law enforcement.

The man, who was not identified, was evading Worcester police when a state police trooper attempted to stop him just after 10 a.m. as he entered the turnpike from the Route 20 connector in Millbury, state police spokesman Dave Procopio said in a statement.

The suspect “failed to stop” and a “brief” chase ensued, police said.

“While being pursued, the suspect abruptly applied his brakes, spun the vehicle around, and intentionally struck the trooper’s cruiser — a 2017 Ford F250 pickup truck — in the area of the driver’s side door. The suspect then continued to flee, driving the wrong direction on the Turnpike (west on the eastbound side). The Trooper lost sight of the vehicle as it fled,” Procopio said.

The cruiser sustained minor damage and the trooper declined medical attention, Procopio said.

Additional troopers and the state police’s airwing kept searching for the suspect but did not locate him, Procopio said.

“The investigation is ongoing,” Procopio said.

The man is the subject of two felony and three misdemeanor warrants, according to authorities.
