A man died of multiple gunshot wounds after a shooting in Dorchester on Saturday night, Boston Police reported Sunday.

At about 9:58 p.m. Saturday, BPD said, officers responded to reports of a person shot around 519 Washington St. At the scene, responders found an adult man with multiple gunshot wounds, police stated.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with life threatening injuries, BPD said, and later pronounced dead.

The fatal shooting follows increased police presence in Dorchester on Saturday for the J’Ouvert, or Caribbean, parade in response to the shooting of eight people at last year’s festivities. The event, which took place on Circuit Drive in Franklin Park, successfully completed without incident, according to organizers. Boston police reported they made at least 15 arrests and recovered about nine firearms by the end of the festivities.

Boston Police said the Homicide Unit is “actively reviewing the facts and circumstances surrounding” the shooting and urged anyone with information to contact the department. Residents may report any information to the Homicide Unit at 617-343-4470 or anonymously through the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1-800-494-TIPS or by texting the word “TIP” to CRIME (27463).

Community members in need may also reach the Boston Neighborhood Trauma Team for free, private support 24/7 at 617-431-0125.

Police also reported a suspect was arrested Saturday in a fatal stabbing in Dorchester that occurred Friday night.

David Adams, 38, of Dorchester, was charged with stabbing and killing an adult man on Dorchester Ave. just before 10 p.m. Saturday. Police said officers canvassed the area for video and found an individual, identified as Adams, matching the description of the stabbing suspect Saturday.

Adams faces a charge of murder and is scheduled to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
