A man is dead after a stabbing at a Boston home for homeless veterans, according to police.

Just after noon today, police responded to a report of a stabbing at 6 Hartford Street in Dorchester.

When police arrived, they found a male victim suffering from stab wounds. The victim did not survive his wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, said Filipe Colon, Chief of Investigative Services for the Boston Police, speaking at the scene.

Police are speaking with a person of interest in the investigation, said Colon, adding, “that person of interest and the victim are known to each other.”

Colon said there was no threat to the public.

Also known as Hartford Manor, the Hartford Street address provides transitional housing for veterans and is listed among facilities administered by the Pine Street Inn.

Colon said the person of interest is also know to staff at the home.

Details of the victim’s age, identity, and status as a veteran were not available, said Colon, who stressed that the investigation is in its early stages.
