A man who police say they caught actively beating a woman sitting in a car in Dorchester before threatening to kill her is being held without bail.

“That’s why people get guns, and that’s why females get shot. I’m going to (expletive) murder her,” prosecutors say Andrew Miller, 39, said to police after they dragged him off the woman he allegedly beat Monday night and handcuffed him.

While later being treated for a facial laceration at Boston Medical Center, Miller allegedly said, “I gave her a couple hard rights, a left and an uppercut.

“Lucky I didn’t stab her. Should have knocked her unconscious. She’s going to pay for this. She’s lucky I didn’t have a knife and stab the (expletive),” he allegedly said. “This is why females get killed. She’s paying for everything.”

Miller was charged Tuesday in municipal court in Dorchester with assault and battery on a household or family member, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot) and threats. Judge Jonathan Tyne ordered Miller held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled Friday.

Police responded to a call “for a person screaming” on Blue Hill Avenue in Dorchester on Monday a little before 7 p.m., where prosecutors say they saw Miller standing outside the passenger door of a car “punching and kicking a female sitting in the passenger seat,” according to a Suffolk District Attorney’s office statement.

Police say that the woman refused medical treatment for her injuries which included visible bumps on her forehead and a swollen lip. She allegedly told police that Miller was driving when the pair began arguing and he started punching her. She said that he pulled the car over to continue the attack.

“This man’s actions and his violence-laden statements make clear that the outcome could have been far worse had more time elapsed,” DA Kevin Hayden said in a statement. “The person who placed the 911 call and the officers who responded deserve enormous credit for limiting the extent of this terrible attack.”
