A car struck and killed a 76-year-old male in Fitchburg Friday night, the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.
The male was walking in a crosswalk near Water and Nichols Street when a vehicle struck him around 8:45 p.m., officials said. The cities of Leominster and Fitchburg meet at the four-way intersection where the 76-year-old was struck.
Police from both cities responded to the incident and it was later determined that the victim was struck in Fitchburg, the Worcester DA’s office said.
The driver remained at the crash and the victim was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester where he was pronounced dead. Officials did not release his name, saying identification would be provided after all proper notifications were made.
Local police, state police, and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Team are investigating the crash, the Worcester County DA’s office said.
