Kudos to my longtime friend Nick Moulaison who owns Carmella’s Market down the street from where I live for providing a good example for members of the East Boston business community (“Stepping up: Biz owner challenges others to give back,” Boston Herald, July 23).

Moulaison came from Eastie, he owns a local business which neighborhood folk really appreciate. However, recently looking around at the challenges facing youth sports later, he decided to step up to aid local football programs for kids by donating $500 to the East Boston Pop Warner football program and he is hoping other local businesses will match his gift.

The Boston Herald is to be commended for its ongoing commitment to community news. Recently after hearing of the plight of the Boston Bengals football program, Ernie Boch Jr. pitched in with a donation to clean up the “Prairie” where the football kids on the Bengals team practice their football skills.

As a boy growing up, I played on a baseball team in this very same park and over the years sadly this place has become infested with drug dealers, users and scattered used needles everywhere.

I thank Ernie Boch Jr. and Nick Moulaison for pitching in and hopefully others will also step forward and donate too. Youth football helps keep kids off the street and out of trouble.  It is up to us, the adults in the room, to make sure youth sports programs continue and it is up to all of us to make sure the fields they use are safe too.

Kudos also to local heroes like  Domingos DaRosa and Debbie Raso, because without them, what happens to all those Pop Warner kids who love playing team sports?

Thanks to the Herald for printing the LA Times article (7/27) about our unprecedented July heat.  The article correctly ties the heat to its root cause – climate change.  But climate change isn’t mentioned until paragraph 8, when it should be the lede.  And the need to stop burning fossil fuels barely makes it into the last line of the article.

We already know it’s hot. How about a different headline:  “Today’s heat is climate change!  Stop burning fossil fuels!”  That’s what the public (and our leaders) need to hear.

It’s time for a change at the top level. I’m sick and tired of all the crap about the faults of both Biden and Trump. Not saying whoever else is elected president doesn’t have baggage but listening over and over again to our elected officials doing nothing but focusing on getting Trump with classified document case and President Biden’s son Hunter’s business dealings. Is anyone else fed up with this stuff? I think so.
