I used to leave my 5 cent bottles and cans outside my house every week so that someone less fortunate than I could grab an extra $8.50 to help pay for food and other bills. Now I think I’ll drop off the redeemables at City Hall so Mayor Wu  can help pay these bloated salaries. Seems like a “win-win” to me.

Really nice to see letters to the editor of Boston Herald is back and I’m excited to write one. I watched President Trump’s joint address to Congress and embarrassed that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Senators Edward Markey and Elizabeth Warren just sat there and not one time stood up to acknowledge some things the president addressed such as recognizing the family of Laken Riley, Jocelyn Nungaray’s mother Alexis, and cancer survivor Devarjaye Daniel. So I ask our honorable Senators, I really would greatly appreciate the answer why you just sat there.

It has been 10 years since Senator Inhofe of Oklahoma brought a snowball to the Senate floor as “evidence” that global warming is a hoax.

It was heartening to read that now, in 2025, most Americans understand that extreme cold can be linked to climate change as strongly as extreme heat. According to an AP survey, of those that have experienced extreme cold events, “about three-quarters say climate change is at least a partial cause of those events.”

Unfortunately, with the recent layoffs at our National Weather Service, we will soon have even less of the necessary data to connect extreme weather and climate change.

Instead, we have handed the NWS to another group of snowball senators, along with unelected billionaires trying to make even more money from the privatization of essential services.

How much do you think you will have to pay for your next snow forecast? And who will be left to tell us the truth about the connection between climate change and extreme weather?

Re: “Battenfeld: Rudderless, clueless Democrats have no message, no unity” (March 8)

That the Democratic Party has come to this sad pass is regrettable but unsurprising. It did not happen because of the electoral debacle in November alone, for we saw the clues a long time ago when the party simply could not credit Ronald Reagan with anything other than the starring role in “Bedtime for Bonzo,” that he along with Margaret Thatcher and Pope John Paul II forced the end of the Soviet Union and the Cold War in a peaceful manner was hardly cheered in elite circles.

And now, of course, we have Trump Derangement Syndrome and the accompanying horror of the world’s richest man helping the 47th president reorder some of the wasteful federal behemoth, all with majority citizen support. Too much for Democrats to analyze thoughtfully, best to do performative politics.
