I’d like to comment on your recent story regarding the handful of layoffs at Boston’s JFK Presidential Library, which resulted in its one-day closure this past week.
Let me get this straight – the Executive Director of the Library, in charge of ONLY 36 employees, makes more than the President of the United States ($422,798). Are you kidding me?
I am an Independent voter who votes Democratic 90% of the time, but it is this constant revelation of obscene salaries, etc. that has pushed so many people to vote for Trump. The top 1% continue to just get greedier and/or get taken care of with cushy jobs.
The politicians / leaders here in Massachusetts and Washington love to explain how they must pay these salaries in order to attract the talent – give me a break!
I could walk into any college graduation ceremony and pluck a handful of graduates who would be qualified to do these “leadership” jobs and pay ’em about $85K, and they’d be tickled pink.
Just look at all the gluttinous salaries reported recently at MassPort, Boston Water/Sewer, Eversource, MBTA, Boston’s hospitals, etc. – it’s endless!
There should be a law that NO JOB, public or private, in this country should have a salary more than that of the President of the United States. Imagine all the money that would then be available for the poor, schools, transit, housing, etc.
Whether it’s the Democrats here in Mass., or the Republicans now in Washington, I fear our country is forever broken and past the point of no return.

I just read Andrew Callahan’s article (“The Patriots’ perfect offseason plan,” Feb. 23) on how the Patriots should draft this year. As a long-time Patriots fan and avid reader of Patriots draft articles from everywhere, I must say that Callahan’s draft (and spend) article is the BEST I’ve seen so far…and by a long shot.
I hope the Patriots’ front office is reading this article. If they follow these suggestions, it would, I believe, put the Patriots right back in the Playoff picture!

Dear President Trump:
I know you have voiced your opinion about Daylight Savings and your determination to end it. Before you sign another Executive Order please consider this: Arizona does not abide by Daylight Savings because it is so hot there that more people would prefer to stay home and enjoy their air conditioners than to venture out and support the local eateries. I’ve been to Phoenix and it’s a joy when the sun goes down and it’s 20 degrees cooler.
However, in states like Massachusetts, the extra daylight prompts people to go out and have a nice steak or dish of pasta. It gives the food places an extra few hours to make up for the revenue they lost during the COVID years. The states in the colder regions need this extra daylight to make up for what they lost in the last five years. As far as the time change disrupting lives…give me a break. How many times have we had a lousy sleep but we get it together in a day or two? My suggestion: Let’s think about this before you sign anything.
