At 3-10 and coming off of their bye week, the Patriots have a lot to improve on over the final four-game slate.
But head coach Jerod Mayo identified one area he’ll focus on most before the season concludes.
“Turnovers. Turnovers will make everything that much better,” Mayo said Monday morning on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show.” “Protecting the football, offensively, and defensively, going out there and getting the ball. I think right now we’re minus six. We just got to do a better job there.”
The Patriots currently rank 25th with a -6 turnover differential. They’re tied for 23rd in total takeaways with just 11 on the season. And they’re 19th with 17 giveaways.
The Patriots’ offense has improved overall since rookie quarterback Drake Maye took over as the starter in Week 6, but their turnovers have also increased. Maye accounts for 12 of those giveaways with eight interceptions and four lost fumbles.
