With the NFL trade deadline just over a week away, it was notable to see Patriots pass rusher Joshua Uche inactive in Sunday’s win over the Jets.
Uche, who’s on a one-year contract, was not listed on the Patriots’ injury report. He was a trade candidate last season but wound up staying with the Patriots.
“It was just a healthy scratch and we also to put the best team out there that gives us the best chance to win,” head coach Jerod Mayo said Monday morning of Uche’s absence.
Uche is viewed as the Patriots’ most likely candidate to be traded. He’s playing just 30.9% of defensive snaps and has 13 tackles, two sacks and three total QB hits.
In Uche’s absence, outside linebacker Anfernee Jennings played a season-high 60 snaps. Jennings typically plays on early downs but comes off of the field in obvious pass-rushing situations. On Sunday, Jennings played 96.8% of defensive snaps.
