Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo continues to deny that his team experienced any off-field issues during their trip to London in Week 7.
“Guys being out in London, simply not true,” Mayo said Monday on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show.” “So those stories continue to come out — it’s just not true. So I’m not sure where it’s coming from.”
A quick timeline: Wide receiver Kendrick Bourne told the Herald after last Sunday’s game that players had to make better personal decisions.
“Rather than staying up all night, or eating whatever,” Bourne said after the Patriots’ loss in London.
Bourne expanded on those comments to MassLive, “So going out overseas, we have to be locked in. I’m not trying to point nobody out, but it’s just we have to focus on what matters. You can go out, but what really matters while we’re here?”
ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported from a team source that rookie wide receiver Javon Baker, who was inactive last Sunday after missing practice the previous Friday with an illness, “had a ‘hiccup’ in London last week when it came to following at least one part of the team’s itinerary.”
NBC Sports Boston’s Phil Perry reported Sunday that Baker missed curfew in London.
Mayo was asked on WEEI if anyone missed curfew during the overseas trip.
“I’m saying this: We did not have people out in London. That’s what I’m saying. I’m not going back to London,” Mayo said. “The guys in the locker room, they do what we need to do to go out there and perform… these guys are professionals and they’ve acted that way.”
Wide receiver K.J. Osborn revealed via social media that he found out on Saturday night at 11 p.m. that he would be active for the Week 7 game against the Jaguars in London.
Mayo said last week that there wasn’t an issue with players staying out late in London and that Bourne’s comments were taken out of context.
“Those guys did a good job traveling and they did a good job adjusting to the time difference,” Mayo said.
Baker was active in Week 8 as a kick returner but did not play on offense.
