The Celtics’ latest injury report offered another positive update on the status of superstar Jayson Tatum.

One day after being listed as doubtful for Wednesday’s game against the Phoenix Suns with a left ankle sprain, Tatum was upgraded to questionable. This change came after he completed a workout during Boston’s morning shootaround at PHX Arena, according to reporters in attendance.

Tatum suffered the injury when he landed on the foot of Kings center Domantas Sabonis during Monday night’s 113-95 win over Sacramento. After dropping to the floor in visible pain and being helped to the Celtics’ bench, Tatum returned to the court to take his free throws before sitting out the rest of the game. Sabonis was called for a Flagrant 1 foul for placing his foot in Tatum’s landing zone.

The Celtics surely will be cautious with their All-NBA centerpiece over the final 10 games of the regular season, especially with their status as the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference all but guaranteed. But Tatum seemingly avoiding a significant injury was a major relief for a Boston team that’s vying to become the NBA’s first repeat champion since 2018.

Tatum, who is likely to earn his fourth consecutive first-team All-NBA nod this season, leads the Celtics in points, rebounds and assists per game and is the league’s fourth-leading scorer.
