We now know the full details of running back Ezekiel Elliott’s contract with the Patriots.
Elliott’s one-year deal, which originally was reported as a one-year deal worth up to $6 million, includes a $600,000 signing bonus and a base salary of $1.55 million, per ProFootballTalk. It also includes $850,000 in per-game roster bonuses ($50k per game active) and up to $3 million in possible incentives.
He would get $300,000 for hitting 975 yards from scrimmage, 1,100 yards from scrimmage, 1,225 yards from scrimmage, 1,350 yards from scrimmage and 1,475 from scrimmage. So, if he gets 1,475 yards from scrimmage, he’d earn a total of $1.5 million. He also gets $300,000 for playing 50 percent of offensive snaps, and again at 55 percent, 60 percent, 65 percent and 70 percent. So, if he plays 70 percent of snaps, he’d get another $1.5 million.
There’s no guarantee that Elliott will hit any of those incentives since he’ll likely be sharing the running back role with Rhamondre Stevenson. Stevenson gained 1,416 yards from scrimmage and played 66.4 percent of offensive snaps as the Patriots’ lead back last season.
Elliott gained 968 yards from scrimmage and played 48 percent of offensive snaps with the Dallas Cowboys last season. He hasn’t gained over 1,475 yards from scrimmage or played over 70 percent of offensive snaps since 2019.
Elliott was present for the Patriots’ joint practice with the Packers in Green Bay on Wednesday.
