NextImg:Greater Boston and eastern Virginia brothel ‘booker’ pleads guilty

The “booker” for a network of brothels in Greater Boston and Virginia has followed his boss in pleading guilty to his part in the crime.

Junmyung Lee, 31, of Dedham, pleaded guilty in federal court in Boston to charges of coercion to prostitution and money laundering conspiracy. U.S. District Court Judge Julia E. Kobick scheduled sentencing for Feb. 12.

Junymung Lee’s plea follows that of the madame of the operation that attracted wealthy and influential — whose names are still legally hidden from public view — clientele. Han Lee, 42, of Cambridge, pleaded guilty to the same charges on Sept. 27 and is scheduled to be sentenced in December.

Prosecutors say that Han “Hanna” Lee recruited Korean women to work as prostitutes in her network of apartments around Greater Boston and the D.C. suburbs of eastern Virginia. As the business expanded, she hired Junmyung Lee to help her.

Prosecutors say Junmyung Lee’s duties other than recruiting and retaining the sex workers were largely mundane and included keeping the apartments clean and stocked with groceries and sex trade-specific items like lubricants and condoms and would drive them around. He also handled a lot of the money, which he directed the women to hide in the freezer.

Han Lee and Junmyung Lee are two of the three people charged. A third alleged conspirator, James Lee, has not entered into any plea agreements and appeared in court Tuesday for an initial pretrial conference, court records show. Prosecutors say that none of the three are related.

The penalties for the charges are up to 20 years in prison for money laundering conspiracy and up to five years in prison for conspiracy to persuade, induce, entice, and coerce one or more individuals to travel in interstate or foreign commerce to engage in prostitution.

This is a developing story.
