After being out of the classroom for more than two weeks, students in Gloucester, one of the three North Shore towns hit with a teachers’ strike, will return to school on Monday.
The Gloucester School Committee reached a contract agreement Friday with the Gloucester Teachers Association and Gloucester Association of Educational Paraprofessionals, ending a strike that began Nov. 8.
“This agreement accomplishes our primary goals from the start of these negotiations – a significant and necessary adjustment in paraprofessional wages, a meaningful increase to teacher pay, and expanded benefits including new paid parental leave,” School Committee Chairwoman Kathy Clancy said in a statement.
“These contracts reflect our deep commitment, appreciation and respect for educators and show a great investment in public education in Gloucester,” Clancy added. “We look forward to working together to best serve the students of Gloucester.”
Strikes are continuing in Beverly and Marblehead.
