Within a half hour of phones buzzing throughout Massachusetts, the 4-year-old Springfield girl the State Police issued an Amber Alert for has been located.
Cortana Goncalves, who the State Police said was kidnapped by her “non-custodial biological mother” at a family gathering earlier Thursday morning, was located just before noon in the Cheshire area.
The State Police issued the Amber Alert sometime after 11:20 a.m., and it showed up on this reporter’s phone at around 11:45 a.m.
State Police say that Brandee Arnold, 32, took Cortana away from a family gathering Thursday morning against the specifications of her custody agreement.
“Arnold has previously made both suicidal and homicidal statements, and there is urgent concern for the safety and well-being of the child,” MSP spokesman Dave Procopio wrote in a statement.
Before locating Cortana Goncalves, the State Police say that the gray 2010 Honda Accord driven by Arnold was last seen on the Massachusetts Turnpike in the Blandford area a little before 9:30 a.m.
The girl is about 3-feet tall and weighs 30 to 35 pounds. She was last seen wearing an aqua-colored “Hello Kitty” shirt and striped shorts.
This is a developing story.
