A Florida man who heard a noise on his front porch opened his door and was bitten by an alligator, police in Daytona Beach said.

The attack happened around 9:40 p.m. Saturday at a house alongside the LPGA International Golf Course.

The homeowner told police he had just opened the front door when the alligator on his porch lunged at him, clamped its jaws around his thigh and started shaking him.

He managed to get free and call for help, and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

A Florida wildlife department trapper was called to capture and kill the alligator. It was measured at 9 feet.
