Boston firefighters responded to the State House Tuesday afternoon, with a mass of trucks gathering on Derne Street.​

A spokesperson for the Boston Fire Department confirmed companies were responding but did not have additional details.​

A state police spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.​

Multiple trucks could be seen​ extending their ladders, with one putting its ladder near a windows on one of the historic building’s higher floors.

Alarms started blaring inside the State House, leading to the evacuation of the building.

Hundreds of staffers, lawmakers, and members of the public calmly flooded into a private parking lot before officials asked everyone to move away from the building.
