Four locals are set to be celebrated after beating out their fellow city residents for the honor of “Fastest Bostonians” at the 129th Boston Marathon this year.

“The theme for the 129th Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America was ‘Meet the Moment’ and these four outstanding Bostonians certainly did that,” said Jack Fleming, Boston Athletic Association president and CEO. “Representing themselves and the City of Boston in our marathon of the same name, we congratulate them on their efforts as we know their achievements inspire others in the City.”

This marks the third year the city will give out commemorative glass bowls engraved with “Fastest Bostonian” in honor of the fastest athletes to complete the world’s oldest marathon in their hometown.

The awards will go to in the men’s division, to Beacon Hill data scientist Erik Linden, who ran his first Boston Marathon in 2:21:25; in the women’s division, Beacon Hill finance worker Jacqueline Gaughan, who finished in 2:32:07; in the nonbinary category, Allston New Balance employee Danielle Bishop, who ran their eighth Boston Marathon in 3:42:14; and in the wheelchair division, South Boston resident Jason Fowler, who completed his 21st Boston Marathon in 2:00:43.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the wheelchair division of the Boston Marathon, and the first year the city will honor the fastest Boston-based male wheelchair athlete, according to the city.

There were no Boston-based female athletes competing in the wheelchair division this year.

Last year’s Fastest Bostonian male, female and nonbinary winners were West Roxbury resident Miles Batty, who finished in 2 hours and 25 minutes; Jamaica Plain runner Arianna Maida, who finished in 2 hours and 48 minutes; and Brighton law student Nonie Anderson, who ran it in 3 hours and 44 minutes.

“Congratulations to everyone who competed in one of Boston’s most treasured traditions and represented our communities,” said Mayor Michelle Wu. “I am especially proud to recognize Erik Linden, Jacqueline Gaughan, Jason Fowler, and Danielle Bishop as this year’s Fastest Bostonians, showing their determination and grit in the marathon known around the world.”

The four fastest finishers will be honored at a reception in the coming weeks, city officials said, with the date to be “announced soon.”
