A falling piece of equipment at the Red Line’s Harvard Station struck a woman who was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
The MBTA said the equipment was a utility box and that it “slid down a column” Monday evening and struck the woman.
The area was cordoned off by T staff.
The T said it is still working to determine what caused the equipment to detach and strike the passenger, who has not been identified.
“We are working to determine what caused the equipment to detach from its mounting. We will take all necessary measures to protect our riders and employees and secure our infrastructure for safer service,” the agency said in a tweet.
The equipment failure at Harvard Station Monday comes just two months after a heavy, water-logged ceiling tile fell and very nearly struck a person who was walking below.
That incident, also at Harvard Station, was captured on video.
The T at the time said it was taking steps to remove all similar soundproofing panels at Harvard and other stations and was conducting a system-wide audit to prevent another collapse.
