


John Benedeck, who plays the organ for Chicago Cubs home games at Wrigley Field, will be hosting a sing-a-long music lesson Friday, July 7.
The free event for children and families is set for 4 to 4:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the library at 555 Barrington Ave. in East Dundee.
Benedeck, a radio producer who graduated from McHenry County College and Western Illinois University, landed the Cubs job in 2020.

The Elgin Police Department and the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office are holding a gun buyback and safety event from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 8, at Elgin City Hall, 150 Dexter Court.
Each person who turns in a gun will receive $100 for every weapon or weapons, police officials said on a Facebook post. Guns must be unloaded and transported in a case, box or bag or inside a vehicle trunk.
Be SMART for Kids will be at the event to provide safety tips and demonstrations on proper gun storage.

The Northern Illinois Food Bank will hold a pop-up mobile market from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 8, at the Elgin Community College Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive.
Grocercies will be distributed to the first 1,000 families to arrive at the drive-thru event at which people will be asked to remain in their cars as food is placed in vehicles, food bank officials said in a news release. No ID, proof of income, or referral is needed.
Two semi-trucks of food will be unloaded and distributed by volunteers while supplies last. Mobile markets typically common grocery items such as breads, cereals, meat, dairy and fresh produce, with items varying based on availability.

The Ride in Kane program and the Kane County Veterans Assistance Commission are offering free rides for veterans who have appointments at the four veterans medical clinics in the area.
Rides are available to and from the Hoffman Estates VA Clinic, the Kane County Judicial Center Veterans Treatment Court in St. Charles, the Aurora VA Clinic in North Aurora and the Aurora Veterans Center, a county news release said.
