NextImg:Editorial: Let Robert F. Kennedy Jr. debate President Biden over Hunter mess

To heck with protocol, the country deserves a Democratic debate today.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. would grill President Biden over his son’s misdeeds putting the president on-air and on the record for all voters to hear.

President Biden would probably stammer and deflect but Kennedy wouldn’t back down. The right moderator would allow the line of questioning to continue until the president grows frustrated and snaps.

That moment would be debate history.

The voting public could finally hear from the president’s mouth the truth about how involved he has been with Hunter’s wheeling and dealing. Or, the president would clam up or even implicate himself unknowingly.

A debate could expose the president to so much pressure he would likely forget the talking points his handlers will feed him. Cue cards only go so far in the heat of a debate.

Incumbent presidents skip primary debates, but this cycle is unlike any we’ve ever seen. What if the DOJ special counsel just appointed says the president’s son was so glued to his dad that it requires another probe? Or worse?

What if President Biden and Hunter Biden are both indicted?

Everyone is obsessed by former President Donald Trump’s legal woes, but it’s insane to ignore what’s going on in the Biden family.

Kennedy has double-digit support in the polls for one reason — even some Democratic voters doubt Joe Biden’s competency.

Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson is also showing in the polls, jumping to 10% in an Aug. 1 New York Times survey. A Real Clear Politics average places Biden at 63%, Kennedy 14% and Williamson 6%.

The left keeps hammering that Kennedy is just a conservative plant to peck away at Biden’s weaknesses. That line doesn’t explain the poll numbers.

This also comes before a stronger Democratic candidate steps in — if President Biden continues to falter this will happen. California Gov. Gavin Newsom? He is holding off but for how long?

You know Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren is itching for one more shot at the Oval Office. She isn’t budging either, but what if President Biden is stung by the DOJ? She wouldn’t hesitate.

Vice President Kamala Harris would certainly run for president in 2024 if her boss said he needed a face-saving exit strategy.

All of the above is fodder for a Democratic debate. We’d suggest a post-Labor Day debate even in friendly Biden territory. Why? The polls can’t be just independent-minded Democrats who are worried sick they will lose the White House next year.

It must be voters who abhor the slimy backroom deals being cut that make everyone sick of Washington’s ways.

Give Kennedy a chance to do what we’d all like to do — pin President Biden down in a live setting where he can’t call a voter “a lying dog-faced pony soldier” and storm off the stage.

That debate will be a primetime sensation.
