Police investigating the massive Easter fire at a Cambridge church believe the blaze was likely intentionally set, as officials on Tuesday asked the public for any photos or videos of Faith Lutheran Church from Easter weekend.
The raging 6-alarm fire at 311 Broadway in Cambridge destroyed the church, and the steeple was removed last week.
The church had a service Easter morning, hours before the building was engulfed in heavy fire and smoke in the late afternoon into the evening.
On Tuesday, nine days after the devastating blaze, Massachusetts State Police asked the public to help them in the investigation of the suspicious fire. The investigation includes the FBI Boston Division, local police and fire, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
“INFO, IMAGES SOUGHT TO AID INVESTIGATION INTO SUSPECTED ARSON OF CAMBRIDGE CHURCH,” Mass State Police wrote on social media.
“The Easter Sunday fire at the Faith Lutheran Church/Eritrean Evangelical Church in Cambridge remains the subject of a joint investigation by several law enforcement agencies,” MSP added. “The investigative team is asking any members of the public who may have information about the suspected arson to contact them.”
Investigators are seeking any photos or videos of the church taken the day before the fire on Saturday, April 8, anytime on the day of the fire on Sunday, April 9, Easter, or during firefighting operations between 5:30 p.m. on Easter and 4 a.m. on Monday, April 10.
Photos and videos should be sent to fbi.gov/cambridgechurchfire.
People can submit tips to the FBI at tips.fbi.gov. The FBI’s tip line is 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324).
Heartbroken members of Faith Lutheran Church are raising money to rebuild the destroyed church. A week after a fundraising page was launched, more than $55,000 has already been raised. The GoFundMe donation page is called, “Faith Lutheran Church Fire Recovery Fund.”
