Some public schools in East Boston were under lockdown, which the system calls “safe mode,” for about 30 minutes as police investigated a call reporting a man with a gun in the area.
According to Boston Police spokesman Sgt. Det. John Boyle, police received a call reporting a man with a rifle in the area of Leyden Street in East Boston at around 2:30 p.m. As of 3:40 p.m., police remained on scene but a person matching that description had not been located.
A Boston Public Schools spokesman said that some schools had entered into “safe mode” due to the police activity in the area. Those schools were Bradley Elementary School located at 110 Beachview Road and Guild Elementary School located at 195 Leyden St.
“There was no immediate danger to our students but we put our schools into safe mode out of an abundance of caution,” Baker told the Herald. “BPS really appreciates our partnership with the Boston Police Department and we look forward to working with them to keep our young people safe.”
This is a developing story.
