The latest MIAA football realignment has succeeded in making Div. 3 literally the division of death.
It’s really no stretch to say that seven or eight teams enter the season with a legitimate chance of winning it all. Start with the Hockomock League where Mansfield, North Attleboro and Milford all return key components from teams which were successful last season.
Billerica won 10 games and many of the same faces that dotted the roster last year are back. Plymouth South and Woburn will have two of the better running teams in the state. In the Bay State Conference, Milton and Walpole should be among the best the league has.
In Div. 4, Duxbury vowed to atone for a heartbreaking loss in the 2021 state championship game; the Dragons won all 12 games by double digits en route to the title and certainly figures to be in the mix again. Patriot League foe Scituate is improved and looking for better results this fall.
Marblehead, Tewksbury, Holliston and Middleboro are programs which have tasted success in recent years and should not be overlooked. Nauset showed great improvement over a year ago and Melrose is never an easy out.
