


An Oxford police officer shot and injured a man who allegedly approached the cop with a sword early Sunday morning, according to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
Police are investigating the officer-involved shooting that took place at around 6 a.m. in the area 407 Main St., in Oxford.
“The man who was shot by the officer is accused of advancing on the officer with a sword,” the Worcester DA’s Office said in a statement. “The man is being treated at an area hospital.”
The officer, who was not injured, was placed on paid administrative leave per Oxford Police protocol.
Oxford Police and Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office continue to investigate the officer-involved shooting.
Mass State Police recovers body of boater after canoe capsizes in Natick
The body of a boater whose canoe capsized on Fiske Pond in Natick was recovered by Massachusetts State Police troopers Saturday night, according to police.
Another person who was in the capsized canoe made it to shore on his own before first responders arrived to search for the missing boater.
“Troopers from MSP Underwater Recovery Team and MSP Marine Unit and Environmental Police Officers located the victim utilizing side-scan sonar at around 10:30 PM,” a State Police spokesman said in a statement.
“MSP divers then recovered the body of the adult male,” the spokesman added.
Fiske Pond is part of the Lake Cochituate sub-basin.
Boston police recover gun after Dorchester traffic stop
Boston police officers recovered a loaded firearm after a traffic stop in Dorchester early Saturday morning.
Derrick Jones, 36, of Dorchester, was arrested on gun-related charges at about 1:34 a.m. on Saturday.
Officers were on patrol in the area of 24 Washington St., when they saw a motor vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The officers then stopped the vehicle, asked the driver to exit the vehicle, and the passenger immediately fled from the scene.
After a foot pursuit, the officers were able to place the suspect into handcuffs. As officers were searching the suspect, they recovered a firearm from his jacket pocket. The firearm was later determined to be a Taurus G2C with one round in the chamber, and eleven rounds in the magazine.
Jones was placed under arrest and charged with: unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device. He’s expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
