A 21-year-old Brockton man was charged Friday with the shooting murder of Hanser Abraham Moreta-Gonzalez, 26, of Boston, in Roxbury last summer.

Adornous Hazelwood, 21, of Brockton, appeared in Suffolk Superior Court to face charges of murder, armed robbery, and several firearms charges. The charges are aggravated by his being a level two armed career criminal, which by state law allows for a the addition of between 10 and 15 years to any sentence if convicted.

He was held without bail, and scheduled to return to court on Aug. 29.

Officers with the Boston Police’s Fugitive Unit arrested Hazelwood on Otis Street in Brockton at around 6:30 p.m. Thursday on the outstanding warrant for the murder of Moreta-Gonzalez.

Police responded to the area of 625 Shawmut Ave. on Sept. 29, 2022, for a report of a person shot, who was transported to an area hospital and pronounced dead. Police identified the victim that Oct. 3 as Moreta-Gonzales.

During a press conference at the scene of the shooting, Suffolk DA Kevin Hayden pointed out that children were playing soccer and practicing football at nearby Ramsay Park, adding, “We’re always concerned about our people and our community when these things happen.”

Officers also arrested a 17-year-old male in the area of 212 Waldemar Ave. in East Boston in connection with the murder in April.

Police encourage anyone with information on this shooting to contact homicide detectives at (617) 343-4470 or to submit information anonymously through the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1-800-494-TIPS (8477) or by texting the word “TIP” to CRIME (27463).

The BPD, State Police and Transit police worked together to crack the case of the bank robber who rides the Orange Line.

Boston Police were dispatched to a robbery in progress call at TD Bank at 24 Winter Street a little after 8:30 a.m. Friday and had just missed the alleged thief. Bank employees said the man had told a teller he had a gun, demanded money and then made off on foot with an undisclosed amount of money toward the Park Street MBTA station.

Transit Police told the BPD that the suspect had boarded an Orange Line train and had gotten off at Mass Ave station, where Transit and State police officers were able to arrest him — though he allegedly put up a fight before the BPD says “officers were able to safely handcuff the suspect without further incident.”

He will face arraignment on armed robbery at Boston Municipal court.

Judith Merenda Cadorette was last seen alive at around 11 p.m. on July 2, 1973, in the Tewksbury Holiday Inn near State Route 38 and Interstate 495.

The 19-year-old’s body would be found four days later in a wooded area just off a highway ramp — Interstate 93’s ramp toward Route 133 West — in Andover. The Herald reported then that she had been strangled with her own bra.

Police describe her as a woman with long dark hair who, despite poor eyesight, enjoyed watching movies at the 495 drive-in and frequented the Holiday Inn lounge and the Pewter Pot restaurant in Tewksbury.

Andover Police disclosed that they had two suspects “from the Greater Merrimack Valley area” for the murder back in July 1973, the Herald reported then, but did not name them.

The article says that she was divorced from her husband James Cadorette of Lowell at the time of her murder and was living with her parents on Meadow Road in Tewksbury.

A Massachusetts State Police poster calling for information on Merenda’s murder asks that tips be submitted to Andover Police Sgt. Mark Higgenbottom at 978-623-3500, Tewksbury Police Det. Sgt. Michael Donovan at 978-851-7373, MSP Lt. Peter Sherber at 978-766-5823, or the Essex District Attorney’s Office at 978-745-6610.

A New Bedford man is facing a charge of vehicular homicide after police allege he was driving drunk southbound on Route 24 when he struck two motorcyclists in Taunton, killing one and critically injuring another.

Fred Moreira, 35, is scheduled to be arraigned at Taunton District Court and faces additional charges of operating under the influence of liquor and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

State troopers responded to the scene at around 2:30 a.m. Saturday for the crash between Moreira’s 2014 Lexus sedan and two motorcyclists.

Tyler Moniz, 30, of Fall River, was driving a 2007 Yamaha R1 when police say he was struck, thrown from his bike and straight into the nearby tree line, killing him.

The second motorcyclist is a 39-year-old Fall River man driving a 2001 Yamaha V-Star 1100. He suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Rhode Island hospital.

A suspect has been charged for the Monday murder of Lorenzo Gomes, 20, of New Bedford, following the arrest of two other men who were charged with being accessories to the shooting.

New Bedford police were dispatched to the area of Tallman and North Front streets shortly after midnight Monday for a report of shots fired.

Police would find Gomes passed out in his car on Belleville Avenue a distance away from where witnesses said they had heard loud bangs that sounded like gunshots. Prosecutors say that they believe Gomes had tried to drive himself to the hospital after being shot, but lost consciousness on the way there. He was rushed to Saint Luke’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Earlier in the week, two other New Bedford men were arrested and charged as accessories after the fact to the murder. Sterling Robinson, 24, was arrested in Fall River the evening following the morning murder. Wyllie Montiero, 25, was arrested Thursday morning in Dartmouth.
