U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley’s home was targeted by a bomb threat Monday, the latest in a string that have been leveled against members of Congress from New England in the past month.
A spokesperson for Pressley, a Boston Democrat, said her office was notified that a bomb threat had been received by Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office against her home and family. Boston police responded to the congresswoman’s home to “assess the situation.”
“We take these issues seriously and we are in touch with relevant officials regarding the investigation,” the spokesperson said. “SWATing threats like these pose a threat not only to elected officials, their families, and their staff, but also our neighbors and community and we strongly condemn them.”
Spokespeople for the Boston Police Department and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to Herald inquiries Thursday afternoon.
Other federal lawmakers have also received similar threats.
U.S. Rep. Lori Trahan’s home was the subject of a bomb threat over the weekend that prompted local and state police to search the residence for any threats. Trahan said she and her family were safe and authorities did not discover a threat.
Six Democratic members of Congress from Connecticut were targeted on Thanksgiving by bomb threats. Law enforcement authorities found no evidence of explosives on their properties.
