The Celtics are shaking up the bottom of their depth chart as the NBA playoffs draw closer.
Shortly after Boston waived second-round rookie Anton Watson on Sunday, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported the Celtics had reached a two-way contract agreement with wing Miles Norris.
Listed at 6-foot-7, Norris appeared in 36 games for Memphis’ G League team this season, averaging 17.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.6 blocks while shooting 46.5% from the field and 38.5% from 3-point range. He played for Atlanta’s affiliate as an undrafted rookie last season and also spent time with Turkish club Cagdas Bodrumspor.
Norris has yet to make his regular-season NBA debut.
The 24-year-old split his college career between Oregon — where he overlapped for one season with Celtics guard Payton Pritchard (2018-19) — City College of San Francisco and UC-Santa Barbara. He played his final year of high school ball at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H.
Watson was one of Boston’s three two-way players, along with Drew Peterson and JD Davison, and the only one who did not see any minutes with the parent club this season. The Celtics chose to swap him out for Norris ahead of the NBA’s March 4 deadline for signing players to two-way deals.
Boston also has one open 15-man roster spot. Last season, the team filled its final spot by converting the two-way contract of center Neemias Queta.
The Celtics, who defeated the Denver Nuggets 110-103 on Sunday, have 21 regular-season games remaining. They’ll host the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday.
