The Bruins re-signed one of their two remaining restricted free agents on Tuesday, but there’s still the heavy lifting to do.

The B’s signed forward Marc McLaughlin to one-year, two-way deal for $775,000, leaving goalie Jeremy Swayman the only outstanding deal that needs completing.

The Billerica native ,who turns 25 on July 26, could stand to regain a little career momentum. The right-shot forward was originally signed by the B’s out of Boston College as an undrafted free agent in in the spring of 2022 and showed promise, scoring three goals in 11 games down the stretch.

He then had a very good training camp the following September but was something of a surprise cut near the end of camp and saw only two NHL games for a Bruin team that won a record 65 games that year. Meanwhile, he had a solid workmanlike season Providence, posting 13-17-30 totals in 66 games.

Last season, however, McLaughlin’s scoring touch escaped him. He had just 8-6-14 totals in 68 games in Providence.

This summer, the B’s acquired several bottom six candidates – Mark Kastelic (via the Linus Ullmark trade, Max Jones and Riley Tufte (free agent signings – so it’s a good bet that McLaughlin will be destined for the P-Bruins’ leadership group, at least to start the season, though he would have to clear waivers to be sent down.

Meanwhile, Bruins Nation still awaits the Swayman deal, which will undoubtedly eat up most of the approximately $8.6 million that remains in their salary cap space.
