The case against accused Cohasset killer Brian Walshe moved forward Tuesday, as police failed to find evidence in a Peabody search but prosecutors indicated key DNA evidence is on its way.

In a joint motion to move a pre-trial conference scheduled for Wednesday to Nov. 2, Norfolk Assistant District Attorney Greg Connor wrote, “the Commonwealth is currently awaiting DNA analysis from an independent laboratory and is expected to have those results in approximately two weeks.”

Walshe is accused of killing his 39-year-old wife Ana Walshe in the early hours of Jan. 1 and dismembering her body.

Though the prosecution did not elaborate on what DNA was being tested, the motion comes months after police found a small bone fragment and red-brown residue in a hacksaw purchased by Walshe, among other evidence.

Without a body, former FBI agents and a forensic specialist previously told the Herald, the bone fragment may be key to the prosecution’s case, depending on the part of the body it came from and presence of bone marrow.

Police also reported searched an area in Peabody off of I-95 Monday and Tuesday.

“Two persons in the Peabody community unconnected to the prosecution of Brian Walshe contacted police investigators with their belief that an area of that community may be of investigative interest in that matter,” said Norfolk District Attorney Communications Director David Traub. “A search of that area by the Massachusetts State Police SERT team yielded nothing.”

Police concluded their search by Tuesday afternoon, Traub said.
